Danish Whisky-Distillery Bottling 70cl/46.3%
Stauning distillery’s provocatively-titled Bastard Batch #1 is a Danish rye whisky, made with a mashbill of 70% rye and 30% barley, both of which are locally-grown and floor-malted at the distillery.
Stauning Bastard is the second release in Stauning’s experimental Research Series, and has been aged for a minimum of three years in virgin oak casks before being re-racked into ex-mezcal casks from Oro de Oaxaca for a six-month finishing period, and bottled at 46.3% without filtration—so there may be a little harmless cask residue in the bottle.
Official Tasting Notes:
The cold winds of the North Sea met Mexican temperament: scents of lemons and sweet tobacco blend with mild smoke and wildflowers in the nose.
It is soft and sweet in the mouth, with spicy notes of herbs and roasted caramel.
