Lowland Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Distillery Bottling 70cl/46.7%
Bladnoch has a funny habit of releasing non-traditional age statements in their core range: an 11-year-old instead of a 10-year-old, a 14-year-old instead of a 15-year-old, and a 19-year-old instead of an 18-year-old.
Various Bladnoch 19-year-old bottlings appeared under former owners Raymond and Colin Armstrong, and the trend has continued under current owner David Prior. Master Distiller Dr. Nick Savage reintroduced Bladnoch 19-year-old in 2021 and this 2022 release is similar to its predecessor, comprised entirely of Pedro Ximenez sherry casks and bottled at 46.7% without colouring or chill filtration. This is where the Bladnoch core range gets serious, with intense sweet sherry flavours making this a great after-dinner dram.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Dried apricots, blackcurrant jam, and warming nutmeg emerge from delicate floral notes.
Palate: Dark liquorice sticks, red berries, peppery oak, and Manuka honey combine in a rich, thick palate.
Finish: Very long and a little drying.
