Ardbeg 30 Year Old | Old & Rare Platinum Selection | 1975-2005
Ardbeg 30 Year Old A 1975 vintage Ardbeg from Douglas Laing as part of their Platinum Selection series. This was the first year of Ardbeg using large amounts of barley malted off site. This has been aged in wood for 30 years and is complex with a classic salinity.
This 30-year-old Ardbeg 1975 is just one of a string of stunning old Ardbeg casks released by Douglas Laing in the period from the turn of the millennium until around 2010. Bottled at its natural cask strength of 47.8%, this Platinum Selection Ardbeg is a masterpiece of minerally complexity and phenolic power.
Bottler’s Tasting Notes
The nose is nicely balanced between the expected iodine and peat qualities, as well as delightfully oaky and vanilla’d undertones. Despite the years, the palate is delicate, round, openly tarry and phenolic, with sweet Mocha-like characteristics. Its finish is smoky, phenolic, and decidedly tarry, with a late impression of medication and the hospital ward.
