Brora 30 Year Old Special Releases, 2002 First Release 70cl
The legendary first release of Brora’s 30-year-old was one of the stars of Diageo’s annual Special Releases in 2002. Building on the runaway success of the Rare Malts Editions, whose incredible Brora 1972 vintages had sparked the passions of many a malt fan, this first release of Brora 30-year-old is also thought to be 1972 casks, and is thus very sought-after today.
Brora’s 30-year-old First Release has since passed into legend, with the relatively low cask strength of 52.4% giving space for an exceptionally complex, waxy, oily palate with balancing citrus fruit, peppery spice, smoke and oak notes, while making no compromises with power and intensity.
This Brora 30-year-old really kicked up the Clynelish/Brora fever at the time of release, although some complaints were made about the initial RRP of £199(!). An otherworldly, revelatory Brora that really lives up to the hype.
