Bladnoch Whisky
Bladnoch Distillery, founded in 1817, is Scotland’s southernmost distillery. It gets its water from the “Bladnoch River,” which originates at Loch Maberry near Kirkcowan. The McClelland brothers, John and Thomas, founded the distillery in 1817. The structures were refurbished near the end of the nineteenth century, but distillation ceased entirely in 1905. Ownership passed from Irish Dunville and Co to David Prior, who made his money with the Australian yoghurt company Five A am. He purchased Bladnoch and 2,500 casks in 2015. The distillation has been taken over by the Lowland distillery, which is currently marketing special edition whiskies.
